DAV Public School and College Managing Committee Overview
As we have discussed at the starting of this article that these schools are managed by the DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC). The full form of DAV school is Dayanand Anglo-Vedic School. There are many DAV public schools in India and many other countries in the world. The DAVCMC is a very old and prestigious educational society. The most important thing about this society is that it is not a government organization. Many people have this misconception about this society and their institutes but it is not true.
Although DAVCMC is not a government society but there are many DAV schools in the country that are government-aided. The no. of Government Aided DAV schools in the country are 62. These schools are run in co-operation between the DAVCMC and the state government. There are mainly 6 six states in co-operation with DAVCMC namely Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Haryana, Orissa, Maharashtra, and Punjab. Apart from these states and union territories, there are some union territories as well that work with DAVCMC.
Now if we talk about the non aided schools then they are 800+ in numbers. Such non-aided DAV schools are present in India and all around the world. In India, these schools are mainly present in states like Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
There are 900+ campuses spread all over the world under DAVCMC. Out of those campuses, there are 900 schools inside and outside the country, 75 colleges, and a university. So yes it is a pretty big society and they have a very big infrastructure set up all around the globe. In these institutions, they educate students right from the beginning with KGs to the graduates and postgraduate levels. There are around 20 lakh students who get education every year from schools and colleges under DAVCMC.
They also provide jobs in a very large no., according to an estimate there are over 50,000 people employed in this society. This society also has the record as they produce the highest no.of toppers in CBSE in Xth and XIIth board exams as a single institute in the last 10 years. I don’t think there is any other society in the world like DAVCMC.
In these institutions, Engish is the primary language of instruction. Students also get to study languages like Hindi Sanskrit, and other regional languages. DAVCMC and DAV schools drive their ideology from Arya Samaj.
History of DAVCMC
So as I said that this society is old. It was founded before the independence of India in the year 1886 in Lahore (presently in Pakistan). Mahatma Hansraj played a very important role in its establishment. All the institutions under this society run on the principles of Swami Dayanand Saraswati who was one of the greatest social and religious reformers in India.
Mahatma Hansraj always had the principles of Swami Dayanand Saraswati in his mind and laid the foundation of DAVCMC. Now all the institutions under this society work on these principles only. When you study this organization in deep then you will find the actual body that runs these schools is the Dayanand Anglo-Vedic Education Society.
The first DAV school was established in the year 1885 in Lahore. Lala Lajpat Rai also played a very important role in this society’s establishment. At the starting of this society, the member collected donations from people to run the school. In the year 1886, the DAV college trust and management society was registered and established.
